Proclamation
Black History Month
February 2022
Whereas, National Black History Month in February affords special opportunity to become more knowledgeable about black heritage and to honor the many black leaders who have contributed to the progress of our nation. African Americans have played a significant role in the history of our nation and California’s economic, cultural, spiritual, and political development while working tirelessly to promote their culture and history; and Whereas, Black History Month is an occasion to rediscover the enduring stories of African Americans and the gifts of freedom, purpose and opportunity they have bestowed on future generations, Black History Month is American History; and Whereas, Black History Month reminds us to continue to fight for justice and equality and should be a uniting call to our nation to continue to work for a more diverse, supportive, inclusive, and protective union; and Whereas, Black History Month is a call to each and every citizen of our great community to reflect on the cultural, scientific, political, and economic contributions of African Americans, which are woven throughout American society. We remember, learn from, and build on the past, so that, together, we can build a better and more prosperous future for all Americans; and Now, Therefore, I, Benjamin Cantu, Mayor of the City of Manteca, on behalf of City Council, do hereby proclaim February 2022, as Black History Month. We call upon public officials, educators, librarians, and all the residents to take part in programs, ceremonies, and activities to enrich this shared American history.
