Public Works Week
May 16-23, 2021
Whereas, the Public Works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizens’ everyday lives, along with the impact that many aspects of public works has on the safety and quality of life in modern civilization; and Whereas, Public Works provides many unsung services, the following are just a few. They provide clean water, collect, treat and dispose of wastewater, they dispose of solid waste, build roads and bridges, keep parks groomed, plan for and implement mass transit, they remove mud and debris off roadways, in addition the devising of emergency management strategies to meet natural or manmade disasters starts with public works services; and Whereas, public works professionals are often the first responders to arrive at an emergency scene to safely manage traffic and the last to leave after the site is cleaned up; and Whereas, the quality and effectiveness of these infrastructure, facilities, and services as well as their planning, design, and construction, could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals; and Whereas, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff the public works departments is materially influenced by the people’s attitudes and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; and Now, Therefore, I, Benjamin J. Cantu, Mayor of the City of Manteca, on behalf of the City Council, do recognize the week of May 15-22, 2022, as Public Works Week in Manteca. I call upon the community and civic organizations to recognize the contributions that public works employees make every day to protect our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life.
