RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MANTECA, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN (CIP) TO INCLUDE THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2) TYPE 1 FIRE ENGINES FROM SMEAL FIRE APPARATUS CO FOR APPROXIMATELY $2,000,000 TO BE FUNDED IN THE FUTURE; ASSIGNING A PROJECT NUMBER TO INITIATE THE PURCHASE; AUTHORIZING THE FINANCE DIRECTOR TO OBTAIN LEASE AND/OR PURCHASE FINANCING; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN AND TAKE ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO EFFECTUATE THE PURCHASE WHEREAS, several fire engines are at, or nearing, the end of their useful life and, therefore, are no longer reliably available to respond to calls for assistance; and WHEREAS, purchasing two new Type 1 Fire Engines will allow two of the oldest units to be replaced, allowing one to go to reserve and one to go to surplus; and WHEREAS, replacing fire engines on a regular fire vehicle replacement cycle will increase operator and community safety; and WHEREAS, purchase of the engines would be made from Smeal Fire Apparatus Co. through Sourcewell’s Cooperative Purchase Contract #022818-VTH for Fire Fighting Apparatus in an approximate amount of $2,000,000; and WHEREAS, staff recommends that the City obtain lease and/or purchase financing due to the length of time between order and delivery date; and WHEREAS, the City Council has considered all information related to this matter, as presented at the public meetings of the City Council identified herein, including any supporting reports by City Staff, and any information provided during public meetings.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Manteca, as follows:
The City Council hereby finds that the facts set forth in the recitals to this Resolution are true and correct, and establish the factual basis for the City Council’s adoption of this Resolution.
Amending the Capital Improvement Plan to include the purchase of two (2) Type 1 Fire Engines and assign a project number for said purchases.
Authorize the purchase of the two engines from Smeal Fire Apparatus Co. for approximately $2,000,000 to be paid in future fiscal years.
Authorize the Finance Director to obtain lease and/or purchase financing.
Authorize the City Manager to sign and take all necessary steps to effectuate the purchases.
This Resolution shall take effect on the effective date immediately.
