National Dwarfism Awareness Month
October 2023
Whereas, The Little People of America, Inc. (LPA), a non-profit organization, is the nation's largest and oldest organization for people with dwarfism; and Whereas, The San Joaquin Valley Chapter of LPA serves more than 160 families stretching from Redding to Bakersfield and from Vacaville to Reno. Dwarfism is a medical condition, made up of over 400 types of genetic conditions, resulting in shorter stature of the affected person; and Whereas, There are an estimated 65,000 people living in the United States with dwarfism, and an estimated 1.5 million in the world; and Whereas, Little People of America (LPA), with more than 7,500 members, is a nonprofit organization that dedicates itself to improving the lives and supporting those with dwarfism and their families. LPA celebrates with great pride Little People’s contribution to social diversity; and Now, Therefore, I, Gary Singh, Mayor of the City of Manteca, on behalf of City Council, do recognize the month of October as National Dwarfism Awareness Month, and urge all citizens to learn more about this condition and to support the needs and rights of those affected by it.
