Proclamation
ARBOR DAY
April 26, 2024
Whereas, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than one million trees in Nebraska and is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and Whereas, trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife; and Whereas, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, fuel for our fires, and countless other wood products. Trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, beautify our community, and are a source of joy and spiritual renewal; and Whereas, thanks to such organizations as the Manteca Garden Club and the Manteca Rotary, which have donated an abundance of trees every year, Manteca has maintained its national recognition as a Tree City USA for 33 years in a row; and Now, Therefore, I, Gary Singh, Mayor of the City of Manteca, on behalf of City Council, do recognize April 26, 2024, as Arbor Day and urge all citizens to be aware of the need to preserve and protect our trees and their environment.
