Proclamation
Children’s Grief Awareness Day
November 19, 2024
Whereas, Children’s Grief Awareness Day was established in 2008 as a day to honor the profound impact of grief in the lives of children and adolescents; and Whereas, this observance aligns with the mission of the Jackson 3 Foundation to support children and families experiencing the loss of a parent or caregiver, raising awareness of childhood bereavement and encouraging advocacy for resources that enable children to build resilience and thrive; and Whereas, before graduating from high school, one in every 20 children will lose a parent, and countless others will experience the loss of siblings, grandparents, relatives, or friends, often feeling isolated and misunderstood as they navigate this life-altering journey; and Whereas, we recognize that grieving children often conceal their pain from the world and that awareness and compassion from our community can provide essential support as they navigate their grief; and Whereas, Children’s Grief Awareness Day shines a light on the unique struggles grieving children face, and on the ways we as a community can help provide the empathy, understanding, and support they need to heal and grow.
Now, Therefore, I, Gary Singh, Mayor of the City of Manteca, on behalf of City Council, do recognize November 21, 2024, as Children’s Grief Awareness Day in Manteca and encourages all citizens to support our youth and their families during difficult times.
