I volunteer to help promote cultural events. I have helped with Black History, Breast Cancer Awareness and Kwanzaa.

Why are you interested in serving on the Senior Advisory Committee? Yes. As an active senior in our community and at the center, I always hear input from others about their wants and needs from the center.

I am an advocate for seniors. Having loss my mother, I began to focus my attention to help others with information I felt my mother could have benefited from. I help senior navigate roadblocks that are particular to us.

What programs and/or events would you like to see the Manteca Senior Center offer and why?
One idea is to offer a reward system for those seniors participating in the activity programs.
Perhaps a certain number canteen dollars could be awarded based on the number of class completions. I don't see any advertisement about the availability of canteen dollars and how you can use them or gift them to others. It would be great if canteen money could be used to pay for class activities. Just a way of rewarding seniors for getting off the couch and supporting the facility. Start a "Canteen Money" Campaign for awareness. Instead of just snacks create an agreement so that the money donated from the SAC folks can canteen dollars can be used for senior activities/memberships as opposed to just snacks. Secondly, perhaps offer more workshops. Invite dieticians, advisors, crafters, health advocates or others present information. The workshops can charge a small fee. As an example, being a member of the Manteca Quilters Guild, I'd expect that we could get a few ladies to donate a couple of hours introducing folks (youth included) to quilting. We could have Movie Night once a month. You could charge or not depending on if you supply the popcorn :) These are just a few ideas. I have plenty more....

1) The Center offers a diverse range of activities. However, I think a periodic "town hall" meeting would be beneficial to assure current needs are being met. 2) With the merging of the Recreation and Community Services and the Center there may be an opportunity to create two groups similar to what a City of similar size is doing. One group oversees activities and another performs outreach.
