Whereas, for the past several years the National Coalition for the Homeless and National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness have sponsored National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week; and Whereas, the purpose of the proclamation is to educate the public and advocate with and on behalf of people experiencing homelessness about the many reasons people are hungry and homeless including the shortage of affordable housing in San Joaquin County for very low income residents and to encourage support for homeless assistance service providers as well as community service opportunities for student and school service organizations; and Whereas, there are many organizations committed to sheltering, providing supportive services as well as meals and food supplies to people experiencing homelessness including His Way Refuge Center, San Joaquin County Behavioral Health Services, PREVAIL, HOPE Ministries Inc., Second Harvest Food Bank, Love INC., Community Medical Centers, Manteca Unified School District, Faith-based organizations and many more; and Whereas, the City Council of the City of Manteca joins communities across our nation to increase the awareness about the importance for emergency shelter and food security for those experiencing homelessness and hunger so that “Being homeless is not a crime” and food insecurities are met with compassion and enthusiasm in our community; and Now, Therefore, I Gary Singh, Mayor of the City of Manteca, on behalf of City Council, do recognize the week of November 16, 2025, as Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and urge all citizens to increase public awareness of the importance of supporting private and public nonprofit entities working to address the complicated issues of homelessness and hunger in our community.
