AGENDA ITEM
TITLE: Authorize Staff to Advance Two Projects Funded By Donation(s) from California Resources Corporation (CRC) to the City of Maricopa: 1) Acquisition of Two Flock Community Safety Cameras at a Cost Not to Exceed $12,000 (Installed); and 2) Authorize Stanislaus Street R-O-W Survey $10,000 for Community Safety Lighting PROPOSED BY: Eric G. Ziegler
MEETING DATE: June 10, 2025

RECOMMENDATION
1) Motion to authorize staff to acquire two Flock Community Safety Cameras at a Cost Not to Exceed $12,000 (Installed).
2) Motion to authorize BHT Engineering to proceed with topographic and boundary survey and Street lighting site plan at a cost of $10,235 using CRC Community Lighting donation of $10,000 and authoring city to assume responsibility for cost in excess of $10,000.

BACKGROUND
In January, Council accepted a combined donation of $22,000 from California Resources Corporation. The purpose of these donations were 1) $12,000 for the acquisition of community safety cameras and 2) $10,000 for Community Safety Lighting.

At this point, it is appropriate and necessary to begin implementation of these projects:
1) City proposes to acquire two Flock Community Safety Cameras at a Cost Not to Exceed $12,000 (Installed). City representatives met with representatives of the KCSO recently to discuss purchase and installation of these cameras. The SO reported that the county had acquired several Flock cameras and that these units are also used by private sector companies for site security applications. The SO suggested that if the city acquired these cameras that they be placed on CA-33 coming into Maricopa and near the CA-166/33 intersection for maximum law enforcement benefit. Should the city acquire these cameras, access will be limited to KCSO as the city's contract police agency. Staff notes that these devices require a two year contract. Whether that is attainable within the scope of this donation remains to be seen. At this time, staff recommends that Council authorize staff to acquire two Flock Community Safety Cameras at a Cost Not to Exceed $12,000 (Installed). 2) City proposes to install safety lighting (streetlights) on Stanislaus Street between CA-166 and Maricopa schools.
