Re: Resolution in Honor of September 2025 as Hunger Action Month in Bakersfield Dear Maricopa City Clerk,
We are asking the Maricopa City Council to declare September as Hunger Action Month in Maricopa during the September 2nd City Council session held next month.
Community Action Partnership of Kern County (CAPK) is Kern County's official anti- poverty agency. Our mission is to "provide and advocate for resources that will empower members of the communities we serve to be self-sufficient." We are part of a nationwide network of more than 1,000 Community Action Agencies.
In September, CAPK will celebrate its unwavering commitment to serving communities in every corner of Kern County administering the largest food bank in our region. In 2024 alone, the CAPK Food Bank distributed more than 22 million pounds of food in our county, averaging 2 million pounds each month, and engaging over 200,000 times with our food insecure neighbors helping fight hunger and bring hope. This work is made possible through the dedication of our staff, the generosity of our partners, and the resilience of the communities we serve, ensuring that no one in Kern County faces hunger alone.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. Please contact Savannah Oates and Ernesto Leon at [email protected] and [email protected] to coordinate this recognition.
Sincerely,
Jeremy T. Tobias
