AGENDA ITEM
TITLE: Consider Closing City Hall and Public Works on Monday & Tuesday, December 22 & 23, 2025 and grant employees paid days off on those days.
PROPOSED BY: Eric G. Ziegler
MEETING DATE: December 9, 2025
RECOMMENDATION
Motion to close city offices and Public Works on Monday & Tuesday, December 22 & 23, 2025 and grant employees paid days off on those days
BACKGROUND
Last year the 2024 Christmas holiday fell during the middle of the week, on Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25th (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day), and council granted two extra paid holiday days, Monday December 23rd and Thursday, December 26'h, closing City Hall for the week of Christmas. This year, the Christmas holiday falls on Wednesday, December 24" and Thursday, December 25'h (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). Staff requests that Council consider granting employees and additional holiday on the proceeding days of Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23, 2025 so that employees may enjoy and extended holiday weekend with family and friends.
Cost of granting an extra holiday on December 22 & 23 is approximately $1,685+/-.
If Council wishes to grant additional holiday days this year, it is appropriate to favorably consider a motion to close City Offices and Public Works Monday & Tuesday, December 22 & 23, 2025 and grant employees the additional paid holidays.

AGENDA ITEM
TITLE: Review/Discuss/Provide direction re Request from Kern County Treasurer - Tax Collector to Consent to Sale of Tax Defaulted Property (Located in the City of Maricopa) March 09-11, 2026 PROPOSED BY: Eric G. Ziegler
MEETING DATE: December 9, 2025
RECOMMENDATION
Provide Direction re Sales of Tax Defaulted Property (Located in the City of Maricopa) March 09-11, 2026 and if there are no objections to sale of property, Authorize Mayor to Execute Consent Document on Behalf of the City.
BACKGROUND
Attached hereto is correspondence from the Kern County Tax Collector re the sales of certain tax defaulted properties on March 09-11, 2026.
A multi-page list of 1,189 tax defaulted properties to be sold is on file at City Hall and available for Council or public inspection during the city's normal business hours. One of the subject properties are located in the City of Maricopa, this being the property at 620 Hazelton, ATN# 042-233-02-00-0, minimum price listed at $2,000; Because this property is within the city's jurisdictional limits and because the city has the right to levy taxes and assessments on the property, the county is seeking consent of the city to proceed with the sale as authorized by Section 3700 of the California Revenue and Taxation Code a copy of which is cited below. "Upon providing notice to the board of supervisors as required by Section 3698, the tax collector shall forward one copy to the clerk or secretary of the governing board of each taxing agency, other than the county, having the right to levy taxes or assessments on the property and may forward one copy to each nonprofit organization that has submitted, within one year prior to the next scheduled tax sale or prior to July 31 of the current calendar year, a written request to the tax collector for notification. The copy or copies shall be mailed, sent electronically, or delivered at least 30 days before the first publication or posting of the notice of intended sale. However, where the tax collector has on file a consent from each taxing agency, the tax collector may proceed to publish or post the notice of sale." If there are no particular reasons to object to the sale of this property, staff recommends that Council favorably consider a Motion to Consent to Sales of Tax Defaulted Property (Located in the City of Maricopa) March 09-11, 2026, and to Authorize Mayor to Execute Consent Document on Behalf of the City.
