Item #03
Date: April 5, 2022
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Christian Sachs, Chief of Police
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: Cal-Fire Rural Fire Capacity Grant
Recommendation:

Pass a Motion to 1) authorize the City Manager, or designee, to submit the Cal-Fire Rural Fire Capacity (RFC) Grant application, 2) adopt Resolution 2022-XX to satisfy grant requirements and 3) if awarded, accept funding to purchase replacement radios and waterproof lapel microphones.

Rationale for Recommendation:

The Marysville Fire Department is in need of replacement radios and waterproof lapel microphones. The RFC Grant is a competitive grant requiring 50/50 matching funds. If awarded, the City will be required to match 50% of the funding.

Background:

The City Council of the City of Marysville has previously approved the acceptance of this grant in 2020, providing personal protective equipment, and in 2021 providing replacement wildland radios. The Department has been replacing damaged standard microphones. These microphones are not waterproof, thus causing them to malfunction. The intention of this grant is to purchase spare radios for personnel and replacement waterproof lapel microphones that will last longer in the environment they are exposed to.

Fiscal Analysis:

The total project cost of this grant is not to exceed $20,000. If successful, the RFC grant would award $10,000 with the City having to match $10,000. A supplemental appropriation in the amount of $10,000 to 10-145-5216 (Radio Equipment) would be added in Fiscal Year 2022/23 budget. If the Department is not successful in receiving the grant award, no supplemental appropriation would occur.

Alignment with City Council Goals:

The proposed grant facilitates achieving City Council Goal #1, Increase Fiscal Sustainability and Goal #4, Enhanced Public Safety.
