Item #04
Date: May 3, 2022
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Nicole Moe, City Clerk
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: Fire Chief Recruitment Contract
Recommendation:

Pass a Motion to 1) authorize the City Manager, or designee to move forward with the Fire Chief Recruitment with Peckham & McKenney per the attached proposal, 2) authorize the City Manager to execute any necessary recruitment contracts and documentation with Peckham & McKenney and, 3) direct the Finance Director to complete a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $27,000 to account 10-112-165 (Professional & Specialized Services).

Rationale for Recommendation:

Securing the contract with Peckham & McKenney will allow for the completion of the recruitment to be done in a timely manner and to the caliber that such a recruitment should be handled. City staff cannot currently administer this recruitment and require outside assistance.

Background:

The City reached out to many different recruitment agencies; however, some did not respond to our requests, provide adequate proposals or came in at a much higher cost (with no cap) to the City.

Peckham & McKenney was able to provide a detailed proposal and satisfy all points of interest.

Alignment with City Council Goal(s):

This Agenda Item helps support Goal #6: Strengthen Institutional Capacity, knowing that the City of Marysville can cast a wide net for the recruitment process.

Fiscal Analysis:

The recruitment of a Fire Chief was not an expected cost at the time the budget was prepared. Staff if recommending authorizing the Finance Director to make a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $27,000 to account 10-112-165 (Professional & Specialized Services).
