Item #07
Date: August 16, 2022
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Christian S. Sachs, Chief of Police
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program
Recommendation:

Pass a Motion to approve Resolution 2022-XX approving the application and acceptance of Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program grant funds.

Rationale for Recommendation:

The Cannabis Tax Fund Grant has been awarded to the Marysville Police Department and as part of the grant approval process, the City is required to approve a resolution approving the application and acceptance.

Background:

At a regularly scheduled meeting of the City Council of the City of Marysville on February 15, 2022, City Council approved Police Department staff to submit for the California Highway Patrol Adult Use Marijuana Act (AUMA) Program Grant and approved to accept the grant in the event the Police Department is awarded.

The Marysville Police Department was awarded this grant in fiscal year 2022-2023 in the amount of $84,191.80. As an additional requirement, the State of California requires an approved resolution accepting the awarded application.

Discussion & Analysis:

This California Highway Patrol Adult Use Marijuana Act (AUMA) Program grant award is a one-year grant .

This grant cycle will be July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023. This funding would be used to reduce the number of collisions by impaired drivers, increase public awareness related to the dangers of impaired driving, improve highway safety, send officers to advanced training, and provided additional enforcement such as DUI Saturation patrols and DUI checkpoints.
