Item #02

Date: October 18, 2022
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Jennifer Styczynski, Finance Director
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: Approve Supplemental Appropriation for Volunteer Fire Capacity (VFC) Grant Recommendation:

Pass a Motion to 1) approve purchase of replacement portable radios and waterproof lapel microphones through a grant award from VFC, 2) authorize the Finance Department to make a supplemental appropriation of $19,162.82 to account 10-145-5216 (Radio Equipment) and 3) adopt Resolution 2022-XX to submit to CalFire with the Grant Agreement Package.

Rationale for Recommendation:

The Marysville Fire Department has been awarded a competitive grant requiring 50/50 matching funds for purchase of replacement radios and waterproof lapel microphones. Per the requirement of the grant, the City will need to match these funds and submit a Resolution for acceptance of the award.

Background:

City Council has previously granted authorization for the approval and acceptance of this grant on April 5, 2022. The VFC Grant provides funding for agencies in our Region that operate adjacent to CalFire State Responsibility Area’s. The Department continues to have the need to replace outdated radio equipment.

Alignment with City Council Goal(s):

The proposed agenda item helps support Council Goal #4, Enhance Public Safety.

Fiscal Analysis:

The total maximum project cost of this grant is $19,162.82 with the VFC grant awarding a match up to $9,581.41. Staff is requesting a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $19,162.82 to 10-145-5216 (Radio Equipment) to fulfill the 50/50 grant matching fund requirements. After purchase and providing proper documentation to VFC, the City will be reimbursed up to $9,581.41 to offset the total purchase price.
