Item #06
Date: February 21, 2023
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Kyle Heggstrom, Fire Chief
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: Yuba Water Agency Bill Shaw Grant
Recommendation:
Pass a Motion to approve the submission and if awarded, authorize the City Manager, or designee to accept the Yuba Water Agency Bill Shaw Grant for the purchase of technical rescue equipment and wildland firefighting equipment in the amount of $10,000.
Rationale for Recommendation:
The Fire Department would benefit from purchasing additional technical rescue equipment and wildland firefighting equipment.
Background:
The Marysville Fire Department has applied multiple years to the Yuba Water Agency Bill Shaw Grant for funding to assist in purchasing specialized equipment. Marysville Fire Department has purchased specialized equipment to be more efficient in water and technical rescue operations. The Department has already utilized the purchased equipment in water rescue and high-angle rescue involving the ladder truck.
The Bill Shaw Grant awards multiple agencies in the Region annually, this helps support specialized equipment and training and is capped at the $10,000 amount.
Alignment with City Council Goal(s):
The proposed code amendments facilitate achieving City Council Goal #1, Increase Fiscal Sustainability and Goal #4, Enhance Public Safety.
Fiscal Analysis:
Should the grant be awarded, the fiscal impact would be a net positive not to exceed $10,000 to the appropriate Fire Department budget, as this grant does not require matching funds from the City.
