Item #06
Date: March 21, 2023
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Kyle Heggstrom, Fire Chief
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: Purchase of Two-Post Vehicle Lift System for Expansion Recommendation:

Pass a Motion to authorize the Fire Chief to execute the purchase of a new two-post vehicle lift system.

Rationale for Recommendation:

The City has purchased six of these post-vehicle lifts in the past. This purchase would broaden the capabilities of the Marysville mechanic’s shop, allowing the Fire Mechanic to lift multiple vehicles at the same time.

Background:

The Fire Mechanic performs maintenance and services on all City-owned heavy equipment, including fire apparatus and the sewer vacuum truck. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires lifts to have a primary and secondary safety system that prevents them from coming down on the mechanic. Measure-K funding from District 10/Hallwood was secured to purchase additional two post-vehicle lifts. This purchase would ensure these lifts are of the same make and model and would be able to lift multiple vehicles. This purchase will enhance the capabilities of the Marysville mechanic’s shop. With this new equipment purchase; heavy equipment can continue to be serviced internally by the Fire Mechanic reducing the cost to send equipment out to vendors.

Fiscal Analysis:

This one-time purchase will be reimbursed by District 10/Hallwood Fire District. Staff is recommending authorizing the Finance Director to make a supplemental appropriation of up to $48,000 to 10-170-5401, Vehicles & Heavy Equipment.

Alignment with City Council Goal(s):

The proposed expenditure facilitates achieving the City Council Goal #1, Increase Fiscal Sustainability, and Goal #4, Enhanced Public Safety.

Attachment(s):
1) Three quotes for a two-post lift system
