Item #04
Date: July 18, 2023
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Christian S. Sachs, Chief of Police
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: Approve the Application for Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program Grant Recommendation:

Pass a motion to 1) approve Resolution 2023-XX approving the application for Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program grant funds and 2) authorize the Finance Director to make the appropriate supplemental appropriations per the grant award.

Rationale for Recommendation:

The Cannabis Tax Fund Grant has been awarded to the Marysville Police Department and as part of the grant approval process, the City is required to approve a resolution approving the application and acceptance.

Background:

At a regularly scheduled meeting of the City Council of the City of Marysville on January 17, 2023, City Council approved Police Department staff to submit for the California Highway Patrol Adult Use Marijuana Act (AUMA) Program Grant and approved to accept the grant in the event the Police Department is awarded.

The Marysville Police Department was awarded this grant in Fiscal Year 2023-24 in the amount of $66,239. As an additional requirement, the State of California requires an approved resolution accepting the awarded application.

Discussion & Analysis:

This California Highway Patrol Adult Use Marijuana Act (AUMA) Program grant award is a one-year grant . This grant cycle will be July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024. This funding would be used to reduce the number of collisions by impaired drivers, increase public awareness related to the dangers of impaired driving, improve highway safety, send officers to advanced training, and provided additional enforcement such as DUI Saturation patrols and DUI checkpoints.

Fiscal Analysis
With the award amount of $66,239 for Fiscal Year 2023-24, a supplemental appropriation to the proper accounts per the grant award documents will be added to Fund 28, Cannabis Tax Grant. There is no fiscal impact to the City General Fund.
