Item #04
Date: August 15, 2023
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Christian S. Sachs, Chief of Police
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: School Resource Officer Agreement
Recommendation:

Pass a Motion to approve Resolution No. 2023-XX to enter into an Agreement with Marysville Joint Unified School District and Yuba County Office of Education to provide School Resource Officer (SRO).

Rationale for Recommendation:

The current agreement with the City of Marysville expired June 30, 2023, and a new contract agreement is needed to continue services throughout FY 23/24.

Background:

The City of Marysville Police Department (MPD) entered into an agreement with Marysville Joint Unified School District and Yuba County Office of Education in FY 16/17 to provide a full time School Resource Officer to schools within the City of Marysville. This agreement was renewed through FY 22/23.

Discussion & Analysis:

The current allocation cost for this School Resource Officer Position is $100,000 annually. Marysville Joint Unified School District has agreed to fund 70 percent of the agreement ($70,000) and Yuba County Office of Education has agreed to fund the remaining 30 percent of the agreement ($30,000). This is an annual agreement between Marysville Joint Unified School District, Yuba County Office of Education, and the City of Marysville with a review each year.

Legal Review:

The agreement has been reviewed and approved by City Legal Staff.

Fiscal Impact:

There is a fiscal impact of a $100,000 appropriated in the Police Budget to provide police services at the schools as outlined in the agreement.
