Subject: Approve Firefighter Job Descriptions and Hiring Requirements Recommendation:
Pass a Motion to approve the Firefighter Job Descriptions with hiring requirements.
Rationale for Recommendation:
The attached job description has been updated, in an effort to meet the evolving needs of the City and based on current staffing levels and state licenses and/or certifications requirements. The City met and conferred, electronically, with the Marysville Fire Fighters Association and successfully had an approval on the Job Description on August 9, 2023.
Background:
The Human Resources staff performed an annual review of departmental job descriptions with Fire Department Staff to update required qualifications, and/or the minimum qualification of education, experience, license/certification, and knowledge, skill, and abilities for acceptable performance of essential job functions and found that updates were required.
Discussion & Analysis:
After careful review of the current Firefighter job description, there was a need to adjust the hiring requirements. The current written examination was done internally. This proposed change would require candidates to complete and pass the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center written examination.
Fiscal Analysis:
All current positions are within the budget of the approved 2023-24 City Budget and no budget amendment would be necessary to hire for these positions should the need arise.
