Item #06
Date: November 7, 2023
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Kyle Heggstrom, Fire Chief
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: Approve Supplemental Appropriation for Volunteer Fire Capacity (VFC) Grant Recommendation:
Pass a Motion to 1) approve purchase of replacement wildland fire safety equipment through a grant award from VFC, 2) authorize the Finance Department to make a supplemental appropriation of $9,939 to 10-145-5105 (Uniform and Protective Gear), and 3) adopt Resolution No. 2023-XX to submit to CalFire with the Grant Agreement Package.
Rationale for Recommendation:
The Marysville Fire Department has been awarded a competitive grant requiring 50/50 matching funds.
The City will need to match these funds for wildland fire safety equipment necessary for emergency operations.
Background:
The City Council has previously granted authorization for the approval and acceptance of this grant on September 7, 2021. The Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant provides funding for agencies in our region that operate adjacent to CalFire State Responsibility Area’s. The Department continues to have the need to replace fire shelters and protective equipment.
Alignment with City Council Goal(s):
The proposed agenda item helps support Council Goal #4, Enhance Public Safety.
Fiscal Analysis:
The total project cost of this grant is $19,878 with the VFC grant awarding $9,939. Staff are requesting a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $9,939 to 10-145-5105 (Uniform and Protective Gear) to fulfill the 50/50 grant matching fund requirements.
Attachment:
1) Resolution No. 2023-XX
