Item #14
Date: June 4, 2024
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Jennifer Styczynski, Finance Director
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: Community Sponsorship Program Application Review Recommendation:
Pass a Motion to discuss the two applications received and determine the awarded amount to each approved entity per the approved Community Sponsorship Policy.
Background:
At the Council meeting on October 20, 2020, the Council adopted the Community Sponsorship Policy for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s). As part of the program adoption, applications submitted by March 31st are to be submitted by staff to the City Council for review and discussion as a part of the annual budget process.
Discussion & Analysis:
The City is in receipt of two applications with a funding request of the maximum amount allowable ($1,500 per qualified application). There is a maximum of $5,000 budgeted to be awarded for Fiscal Year 2024-2025. It is being presented to the Council to determine how much the two applicants may receive.
Applications have an annual due date of March 31 to be considered for award and then if awarded, the funding would be disbursed after the turn of the next fiscal year (July 1) within a reasonable amount of time after the budget for that fiscal year is adopted by City Council.
Alignment with City Council Goals:
This Agenda Item helps support Goal #2: Expand Economic Development; as this program puts dollars in direct contact with local businesses through an application process.
Fiscal Analysis:
For the Fiscal Year 2024-2025, $3,000 is proposed to be approved in the budget for Community Sponsorships.
