COUNCIL COMMENTS
CHRIS BRANSCUM
Department:
MAYOR
- This Council Meeting is to discuss the city's position on the CalWater rate increase proposal. - Previously asked for a report of income statements from CalWater as well as a detailed breakdown of Marysville in particular - But did not receive it and now I am asking again.
- This is to determine the management of operations and to deep dive into all aspects of the 33% increase.
BRAD HUDSON
Department:
COUNCILMEMBER
- Thanks, CalWater for attending
- Concerns about the high increase
- Increase are more common
- Businesses in the city will suffer
- Residents with fixed incomes will suffer
- Bill increase while profits stay the same
STUART GILCHRIST
Department:
COUNCILMEMBER
- Thanks to all for attending
- City staff should dig into the increase and work with other agencies like Yuba Water to find out all details about 33% - Also take into consideration Marysville's sewer and Ellis Lake - Message to the citizens: We hear your frustration, and we are just as upset
MARJORIE ROLLINS
Department:
COUNCILMEMBER
- It sems City rates increase when water company does surveys - We must file complaints and take action against this increase - This cannot stand
JIM SCHAAD
Department:
CITY MANAGER
- Staff and consultants will, with the approval of Council, start getting to the bottom of this - We want to build the Marysville economy
- Build up businesses and residents too
- Any cost increase within the city will boost the economy, HOWEVER, this increase in fees does not come back to the City so it hurts the City
CHRIS BRANSCUM
Department:
MAYOR
- CalWater will speak tonight
- Developers need more water? They have to endure an additional fee on top of the 33% - This will scare developers away from the City
- Percentages in comparison to other areas around Marysville is big difference
PUBLIC COMMENT
RENICK HOUSE
Department:
YUBA COUNTY DOARD OF SUPERVISORS, DISTRICT TWO
- Support the City's rejection of the increase
- Willing to write letters of support for the City's opposition
JOHN MESSICK
Department:
YUBA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, DISTRICT FIVE
- Mirror what Renick House Councilmember Gilchrist said - The City should talk to other agencies to get to the bottom of this - Yuba Water can assist with the project if the city wants to take over the water for the county. - MSVL should adopt a regionalized plan with surrounding areas
TAVIS BEYNON
Department:
CALIFORNIA WATER SERVICE
- CalWater wants to be transparent
- Wants the opportunity to come back and explain to the City Council the reasons for the increase - Will bring numbers and data specific to Marysville
KEVIN MCCUSKER
Department:
CALIFORNIA WATER SERVICE
- Will have all the numbers when the City and CalWater discusses - Difficult to compare rates based on individual bills
- Simply a proposal not a decision or action
- Personal experience says that initial proposals never make it through - The cost of water is different for all regions therefore rates are individualized
MAYOR, CHRIS BRANSCUM - COMMENTS
CITY MANAGER, JIM SCHAAD - COMMENTS
COUNCILMEMBER, BRAD HUDSON - COMMENTS
COUNCILMEMBER, STUART GILCHRIST - COMMENTS
SUSAN TOWNSEND
Department:
MARYSVILLE RESIDENT
- Increase in utilities hurts residence
- Majority of residents are on fixed incomes
- CalWater has Marysville hostage
