Item #04
Date: November 4, 2025
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Kyle Heggstrom, Fire Chief
Jim Schaad, City Manager.
Subject: Approve MOU to move Marysville Fire Department from City of Marysville Dispatch to Yuba County Sheriffs Dispatch center.
Recommendation:
Pass a Motion to approve a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Marysville and Yuba County to provide dispatch services to the Marysville Fire Department.
Rationale for Recommendation:
City Council voted in favor January 2025 to allow the Yuba County Sheriffs Department to dispatch the Marysville Fire Department. The request is to approve the attached MOU to allow this service until the completion of the annexation.
Background:
The Marysville Fire Department has been dispatched by MPD although this has met the needs of the department. The growth of coverage area and the need for common communication with other outside agencies has facilitated the need to be dispatched through YCSO. This would help facilitate mutual aid, drop boundaries, and help with the merger of the two agencies. This would also eliminate the need for the City to invest in large capital improvements with the current Marysville Fire frequency.
Alignment with City Council Goal(s):
The proposed change facilitates Goal #3, Enhance Public Safety.
Fiscal Analysis:
With the transition occurring during mid-year process, the estimated cost is approximately $30,000.
