Item #04
Date: January 20, 2026
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Vance Nabeta, Chief of Police
Jim Schaad, City Manager
Subject: California Office of Traffic Safety Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Grant 2026/2027 Recommendation:
Authorize Police Department staff to submit for California Office of Traffic Safety Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Grant (OTS) and approval to accept the grant in the event the Police Department is awarded.
Rationale for Recommendation:
Submitting for and accepting this grant funding would allow the Police Department to increase traffic enforcement in areas where primary traffic collision factors are more prevalent. This grant would also increase enforcement activities relating to driving under the influence enforcement and increase bicycle/pedestrian safety.
Background:
The City of Marysville Police Department (MPD) has received this grant multiple times in the past, which supported traffic enforcement efforts city wide. This grant has also afforded the Department to purchase a DUI command trailer, portable generators with light stands, traffic cones, breathalyzer machines, overtime related costs, and traffic safety vests.
Discussion & Analysis:
The California Office of Traffic Safety Selective Enforcement Program grant would be a one-year grant if awarded. This grant cycle will be October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027. This funding would be used to increase traffic enforcement, increase DUI enforcement, and related equipment to support the needs of the grant.

Item #04
Fiscal Impact:
There is no fiscal impact to the City’s General Fund as the grant is reimbursable, and staff would submit the FY 2026/27 grant to the California Office of Traffic Safety by January 31, 2026. The FY 2024/25 OTS grant submission was awarded in the amount of $126,152.51, but the upcoming OTS budget has yet to be determined. If OTS approves the request, staff will move forward with the grant process.
