RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. Discuss and ratify appointments of City Council representatives to City Council Subcommittees and Regional Boards and Commissions in keeping with City Council Policy No. 2.
DISCUSSION
During the annual City Council reorganization, the City Council reviews the designated representatives and alternates to various subcommittees and regional boards and commissions for the calendar year. Attachment 1 includes a list of the established Council subcommittees and regional boards and commissions to which members of the City Council have been appointed.
Along with consideration of Council appointments for the calendar year, this review provides an opportunity to consider the addition or exclusion of City representation on identified regional boards and commissions.
In addition to the established regional boards and commissions, the City has been invited to appoint a representative and an alternate to the Southwest Elected Collaborative Group (Collaborative). Representatives from the cities located in Southwest Riverside County including the cities of Canyon Lake, Menifee, Murrieta, Temecula, and Wildomar along with representatives from the Riverside County Board of Supervisors and California State Legislature serving the region have been invited to participate in the Collaborative. The identified focus of the Collaborative includes engaging in dialogue with agencies such as the Riverside County Transportation Commission, Riverside Transit Agency, Riverside County, and the San Diego Association of Governments to advocate for the interests of residents and businesses located in Southwest Riverside County. The Coalition meetings are currently held on the third Thursday of the month at 12 p.m.

City Council Policy No. 2 states that, “appointments shall be made by the Mayor and the Council shall ratify such appointments by majority vote.” Following the review and appointment of representatives for the established Council subcommittees and regional boards and commissions in keeping with the adopted policy, the City Clerk will notify the various agencies of any changes made for the 2024 calendar year.
