RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. Adopt a resolution to approve the existing street name of Sweetwater Canyon Road as the official street name, located south of Scott Road and approximately .85 miles west of Haun Road.
DISCUSSION
On August 13, 2025, the Community Development Department received notification from the Engineering Department that there was an inconsistency pertaining to the existing street named “Sweetwater Canyon Road,” located south of Scott Road and approximately .85 miles west of Haun Road.
Title Company and Land Surveyors involved in a roadway dedication noted that “Sweetwater Canyon Road” was the incorrect street name as Parcel Maps (PM) 8949 and 14979 created the street segments as “Mc Bob Road” in 1977 and 1981 respectively. In 1987, the Riverside County Road and Survey Department filed a Certificate of Correction on Parcel Map 18683, presumably to change the street name to match the other two parcel maps referencing “Mc Bob Road.” Despite clear parcel map designations of “Mc Bob Road,” the street name shown on current County Assessor documents, all City of Menifee documents and maps, and the existing City street sign identifies the street as “Sweetwater Canyon Road.” However, staff has been unable to locate a City (or County) resolution that would have been required to officially change the name of the street to “Sweetwater Canyon Road.”
On September 15, 2025, staff issued a letter to the twenty-six property owners along Sweetwater Canyon Road to serve as notification that a recommendation would be presented to City Council to officially clarify and confirm the street name as “Sweetwater Canyon Road,” and to request confirmation of the street name recorded on the property owners’ official documents,

correspondence and utility bills. Staff received five responses that all confirmed the street name to be “Sweetwater Canyon Road.”
At this time, staff recommends the adoption of a resolution to confirm the existing street name of “Sweetwater Canyon Road” to be the official street name of the road located south of Scott Road and approximately .85 miles west of Haun Road.
Government Code § 34091.1 designates authority to the City Council to amend existing names of City streets by adoption of a resolution. Upon adoption, staff would send a letter of notification to the residents to confirm the existing street name of “Sweetwater Canyon Road” to be the official street name. The Building Official would also submit an address verification document to Menifee Geographic Information System (GIS), Riverside County GIS, 911 Emergency Services, and the United States Post Office (USPS).
