WHEREAS, the passage of the federal Fair Housing Act in April 1968 marked a historic commitment to eliminating discrimination in housing and advancing equal opportunity for all Americans; and WHEREAS, Fair Housing laws at the federal, state, and local levels prohibit discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, national origin, and other protected characteristics under California law; and WHEREAS, access to fair and equitable housing—including the opportunity for homeownership—is fundamental to building strong communities, promoting economic mobility, and creating generational wealth for families; and
WHEREAS, the City of Menifee recognizes that expanding access to homeownership opportunities fosters neighborhood stability, encourages civic engagement, and supports long term investment in the community; and
WHEREAS, REALTORS® play a vital role in upholding Fair Housing laws by adhering to a strict Code of Ethics, providing equal professional service, and guiding individuals and families through one of the most important financial decisions of their lives—the purchase of a home; and WHEREAS, the Southwest Riverside County Association of REALTORS® is committed to advancing Fair Housing through education, advocacy, and community outreach, and to working collaboratively to remove barriers to both rental housing and homeownership; and WHEREAS, continued education, awareness, and collaboration among housing providers, local government, and community organizations are essential to ensuring that all residents of Menifee have access to housing opportunities free from discrimination.
NOW, THEREFORE the City Council of the City of Menifee, does hereby proclaim the month of April as Fair Housing Month and encourages all residents, housing providers, and community stakeholders to uphold the principles of Fair Housing and to promote equal access to both housing and homeownership opportunities for all.
