RESOLUTION NO. 2022-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MERCED, CALIFORNIA,
AUTHORIZING THE DISPLAY OF A
COMMEMORATIVE FLAG ON THE CITY
FLAGPOLE IN BOB HART SQUARE FOR THE
MONTH OF JUNE 2022
WHEREAS, the City of Merced ("City") displays flags on City flagpoles in accordance with federal and state law;
WHEREAS, displays of flags on the City's flagpoles express the City's official sentiments;
WHEREAS, on July 6, 2021, the City Council adopted Administrative Policy C-7, Display of Flags at City Facilities, which establishes guidelines for the display of flags at City facilities, including commemorative flags; WHEREAS, the display of flags at City facilities is solely intended to serve as an expression of the City's speech;
WHEREAS, at the April 18, 2022 City Council meeting, Council Member Jesse Ornelas requested an item be placed on the May 6, 2022 City Council agenda for consideration of displaying the Pride Flag in honor of Pride Month; and, WHEREAS, on May 6, 2022, the City Council voted with a vote of 6-1 in favor of displaying the Pride Flag, a commemorative flag, for the month of June 2022 at Bob Hart Square.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MERCED
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE, FIND, AND ORDER AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Merced hereby authorizes the display of the Pride Flag, a commemorative flag, for June 2022 at Bob Hart Square in accordance with Administrative Policy C-7.
