I've been involved with and interested in the arts community for many years.
I have been following what
this commission has been doing and would love to be a part of it. I've retired from teaching elementary school, so I have time on my hands and want to serve my community more.
I already know several of the
committee members and have worked with them on various arts projects.
Please list your current employer and relevant volunteer experience.
I am currently retired, but I am a volunteer at Playhouse Merced and have been involved with them for 15 years. I've currently started a senior theater project with them.
I have also been involved with Merced
Shakespearefest as a producer, director and stage manager.
What is your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this Board or Commission? This board works to help develop projects that support and advocate for the arts programs in Merced.
I
understand they are also working on developing an Arts District in Merced, as well.
Do you have experience or special knowledge pertaining to this Board or Commission? My experience comes from my years working in community theater in Merced.
I also know many artists in
this community. I also have very good organizational skills.
Any other comments you would like to add that may assist the City Council in their decision?
The Arts Community here in Merced is very special.
For a city this size, we have a lot going on and
opportunities for even more.
I think it is wonderful that the City Council is so supportive of the Arts.
I would
like to help represent the community and be able to have a hand in developing a thriving, growing, and diverse arts culture in this community.

I currently work at the Merced County Office of Educations Family Resource Center as the Family Resource Specialist. My job is to do outreach with the community and help them find programs and resources to fit their needs. My priority is being inclusive no matter race and gender. I also look into other programs that are needed within Merced.

My current employer is Merced County Office of Education, Family Resource Center. I have volunteered as a Catechism teacher for St. Patrick's Parish in Merced. I have also volunteered at local homeless shelters and served dinner.
What is your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this Board or Commission? My understanding is that is pertains to local culture within Merced and Arts that exist here or could be brought to our community.
Do you have experience or special knowledge pertaining to this Board or Commission? I have knowledge of the community of Merced as well as what opportunities exist and I feel that I could be a good asset to this Commission.
Any other comments you would like to add that may assist the City Council in their decision?
I feel that inviting new people with fresh outlooks could benefit this Commission.

I am a fifteen-year resident of downtown Merced with a longtime intellectual interest in architecture, an amateur photographer, a onetime member of vocal and choral ensembles ranging from barbershop quartes to large choirs, and a participant, teacher, and organizer of participatory community dance activities.
These activities have enhanced my personal and professional life in ways that I never could have imagined when I was younger.

I am a senior infrastructure engineer with Wells Fargo, where I have worked since as a full-time employee since 2006 and a contractor prior to that since 2004.
My responsibilities are focused on the design,
development, and engineering support for Wells Fargo's corporate email infrastructure.
Outside of Wells
Fargo, I have been a community dance participant, teacher, and organizer since the late 1990s, serving on the board of the Bay Area Country Dance Society (BACDS) for five years (2000-2005), as BACDS's president for three years (2002-2005), as it's webmaster (https://bacds.org/) for eight years (1999-2007).
During my time in Merced, I have been a member of the Boots and Slippers square dance club (2010- 2016), taught a class in traditional American community dancing through Merced College's Community Education program, organized contra/square dances at The MAC and the Veteran's Auditorium, and regularly teach or taught American, English, and Scottish dances for folk dance groups in Turlock and Sonora.
I am regularly booked as a dance teacher, live sound engineer, or live sound engineering teacher by community dance organizations throughout central and northern California and Nevada.
I am also a
member of the Merced County Historical Society and the Merced County Arts Council, assist both organizations with their live sound needs, and participated in the October 2016 staged reading of the Sinclair Lewis play It Can't Happen Here.
Finally, I have provided live sound support for events hosted by local organizations such as Soroptimists International of Merced, Merced LGBTQ+ Alliance, and Merced
Pride Center, including this year's and last year's Pride Flag raising and the Pride Weekend festivities coming up in September.
What is your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this Board or Commission? The commission makes recommendations to the Merced city council and other commissions regarding projects and ongoing efforts aimed at enhancing the arts and cultural development.
In recent times, this
has included efforts such as the painting of city-owned utility boxes in the downtown business district, CalTrans-funded artwork under the highway 99 underpasses, and a proposed Black Lives Matter street mural.
