first as a general counselor and now over in EOPs.
I am applying for this position because I want to be
part of my community and help develop it for the future.

I was born in Merced and raised in nearby Dos Palos.
I have lived in Merced since 2004 and purchased
my first home here. I plan on remaining a Merced resident for the remainder of my life and will also continue to work at Merced College in my current profession.
I travel through the city streets of Merced on
a daily basis and see many areas that need improvement.
I am interested in being part of a committee
that will establish Merced to be a stronger smaller city (compared to its counterparts of both Turlock and Fresno) and to bring in more tourists, students, and families to the area.

I moved to the city in 2019 and currently work
with a manufacturing start up business - Caris Incorporated.
Please list your current employer and relevant volunteer experience.
Current Employment, Caris Inc. - Vice President here in Merced.
I served as President of the Artists
Alliance in Travelers Rest, SC. Which required direct involvement with the City Manager and Council.
I
also chaired an annual arts festival with over 100 vendors and 5,000 visitors.
I was an instructor with ROP
in Anaheim School District 1987 - 89
and volunteered as Sponsor/Mentor to DECA (a high school marketing club). I have volunteered with numerous organization including Easter Seals, Girl Scouts, and as President of the Board of my church, two 3 year terms.
What is your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this Board or Commission? This Commission reviews the spending of funds collected from each of these Measures. This Commission assures the Council or assigned department is distributing monies according to the intent of the voter approved Measures.
Do you have experience or special knowledge pertaining to this Board or Commission? I have no special knowledge of tax collection or distribution.
Any other comments you would like to add that may assist the City Council in their decision?

Susan Savage –
During her thirty-year career in hospitality, Susan obtained a working knowledge of all aspects of the hotel industry. In the early 1970’s she was hired as the first female desk clerk in the Disneyland Hotel organization and began a 7-year career with the Disneyland Hotel. She rose to an Operations Management position which included Disney Trainer.
Susan held several hotel executive management positions in Southern California and Washington DC including General Manager of Ramada Inn, Anaheim, California; Assistant General Manager for Holiday Inn Washington DC; and Operations Manager at the Dupont Plaza Hotel, Washington DC.
She also was hired to bring a hospitality culture to the health care industry in her position as Associate Director of El Cajon Hospital, San Diego, California.
Susan also put her skills to use when she was invited to teach hospitality as a vocation in the Anaheim School District to both high school students and adult education classes. Susan holds a teaching credential from California State University, Long Beach. She is an accomplished artist. In Addition, she teaches art classes privately and has taught art through Osher Life Long Learning (OLLI) Furman University, Greenville South Carolina.
After moving to Washington DC, Susan became Chief Operating Officer of Encore Staffing, a large government staffing corporation. She was directly responsible for contracts with high profile federal departments including the Department of State, Patent and Trade, Treasury, and AmeriCore. She went on to become Associate Director of the Natcher Conference Center at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda MD.
Susan was fortunate to work for many desirable corporations including General Electric’s 100,000 sq ft Distribution and Configuration Center in Frederick, Maryland. In her job as the Senior Administrative Manager in charge of all non-product departments, she was able to maintain all product support departments, ensure building maintenance, decrease shrinkage, and assure temporary staffing. Additionally, she learned and applied the GE Six Sigma philosophy and GE’s supply chain culture.
After moving to South Carolina, Susan went on to become President of the Travelers Rest Arts Alliance located in the Upcountry of South Carolina. During her four-year tenure the Alliance increased artist and patron membership; opened a co-operative gallery for member artists; partnered with Furman University Art Department to support student artists; acquired an ASCAP license for member business’ performances; resurrected an annual art festival which increased to 100 vendors and 5000 attendees; and laid the ground work for city involvement in the arts.
Susan currently lives in Merced, CA. In 2019, after moving back to California, Susan accepted a position as Vice President of Caris Inc. in charge of Operations.

What is your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this Board or Commission? These boards/commissions perform oversight on behalf of voting citizens to city personnel functions as related to their missions.
Do you have experience or special knowledge pertaining to this Board or Commission? Only many years work and life experience augmented by lots of reading.

I understand both their oaths of offices and the difficulties they experience in balancing conflicting interests.
