Interests & Experiences
Tell us about yourself, and why you are applying for this particular Board or Commission:

I am an active person who has a large interest in helping their community, specifically working with youth and the community’s mental health. I strongly believe that art is an amazing way of self expression that helps heal and bring people together as does bonding over culture and the experience of learning things about other people. Expression through arts and culture allows us to bond with people different to us, open our minds to more experiences, ideas, and are two very different yet similar ways to better serve and represent our communities in positive light not only within Merced County, but state-wide.

Please list your current employer and relevant volunteer experience.

I am currently employed by Hughson Nut Inc. in Livingston as a Machine Operator for the graveyard shift.

Some relevant experience I have is working with non-profit organization Merced Faith in The Valley after an internship and am currently part of the Culture Committee for my job. I have also taken it upon myself to visit Yosemite Lake and my local park to pick up trash I see and leave the area better then when I arrived. I am currently looking into organizations to volunteer more in my community after fully moving homes.

What is your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this Board or Commission? My understanding of the role is making recommendations to the City Council on projects, murals, locations, as well as bringing up new ideas to better-promote arts within the city that helps beautify our public space as well as create a culture that has a positive impact through art.

Do you have experience or special knowledge pertaining to this Board or Commission? I have 10+ years of leadership experience and also have experience being in my high school’s Associated Student Body for 2 years and Vice-President for my high school class of 2017 for 2 years as well as Senior Class President and President for multiple clubs my final year in high school. I am currently serving at my job’s Culture Committee as I was requested and recommended to join by multiple people due to my positive attitude, ability to motivate and get along with people, and various ideas in creating a great atmosphere.

Any other comments you would like to add that may assist the City Council in their decision?
I graduated UC Merced and received my Bachelor of Arts in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies and a minor in Spanish. I have over 10 years of leadership experience and have flourished in areas that I am new to, with this being quickly proven in my current as well as previous jobs. I carry myself to be a positive role model for youth of all communities, especially those belonging to low-income backgrounds, First- Generation groups, minorities, as well as supporting females in male-dominated areas. I take pride in speaking up about mental health and the importance of healthy expression and community networking and bonding, and know that arts in the community is such a positive thing that helps in so many aspects and as a huge fan of arts and crafts myself, I know that this expression within the community is amazing not only for the artist, but the community as well.

Interests & Experiences
Tell us about yourself, and why you are applying for this particular Board or Commission:

I am a fifteen-year resident of downtown Merced with a longtime intellectual interest in architecture, an amateur photographer, a onetime member of vocal and choral ensembles ranging from barbershop quartes to large choirs, and a participant, teacher, and organizer of participatory community dance activities.

These activities have enhanced my personal and professional life in ways that I never could have imagined when I was younger.

Please list your current employer and relevant volunteer experience.

I am a senior infrastructure engineer with Wells Fargo, where I have worked since as a full-time employee since 2006 and a contractor prior to that since 2004.

My responsibilities are focused on the design,
development, and engineering support for Wells Fargo's corporate email infrastructure.

Outside of Wells
Fargo, I have been a community dance participant, teacher, and organizer since the late 1990s, serving on the board of the Bay Area Country Dance Society (BACDS) for five years (2000-2005), as BACDS's president for three years (2002-2005), as it's webmaster (https://bacds.org/) for eight years (1999-2007).

During my time in Merced, I have been a member of the Boots and Slippers square dance club (2010- 2016), taught a class in traditional American community dancing through Merced College's Community Education program, organized contra/square dances at The MAC and the Veteran's Auditorium, and regularly teach or taught American, English, and Scottish dances for folk dance groups in Turlock and Sonora.

I am regularly booked as a dance teacher, live sound engineer, or live sound engineering teacher by community dance organizations throughout central and northern California and Nevada.
