Tell us about yourself, and why you are applying for this particular Board or Commission:

I am a recent graduate of UC Merced with a degree in political science. As a proud current member of the Regional Air Authority and frequent user of the Merced Yosemite Airport to visit family in SoCal, I have a vested interest and stake in ensuring the continuous function of the airport so that it can continue to serve our community and connect them to larger regions and hubs. Having served a partial term, which saw a variety of positive changes for our town as well as the airport such as the renaming of the airport, change of EAS providers, return of Las Vegas flights, and more, I would like to continue forward with my service in the Regional Air Authority for a second term.

Please list your current employer and relevant volunteer experience.

Upload a Resume
Do you have experience or special knowledge pertaining to this Board or Commission? I am a current member of RAA and have intimate and first-hand experience with the procedures and functions of the board. Additionally, I was employed with the UC Center of Excellence on Drone Safety during my senior year at UC Merced. Much of the rules and regulations that I was required to learn and teach to students and faculties involved the Merced Yosemite Airport such as safe flying heights to avoid issues with manned aircraft, mission planning for drone flights, and even designing a 3D map to highlight safe drone operating heights and limits for the UC Davis Airport. Through this work, I became very aware of the functions of an airport, the variety of airspaces, airport frequencies, and landing and takeoff procedures. Additionally, I was a member of the winning team in the UC Aviation Competition. I assisted in the safety and mission planning for our drone and am intimately aware of drone regulations of which there is much overlap when it comes to aircraft regulations.

Any other comments you would like to add that may assist the City Council in their decision?
I was appointed to the RAA as the only UC Merced student and now as an alumnus. As an alumnus, I hope to continue working with the RAA as the only commission member maturing from the university. I fervently believe that one of the best ways to increase airport traffic is through continued outreach to the UC Merced community and ensuring that students know that the airport is another option to travel to and from our growing community of Merced.
