Proclamation
WHEREAS, Somos Familia Valle Central was created in 2022 because the need for a Latinx LGBTQ focused space was needed in the Central valley; and WHEREAS, Somos Familia Valle Central serves to create safe spaces for all Merced and Madera County LGBTQ community; and WHEREAS, Our focus is on peer support, support groups, trans mentorship, HIV / STI prevention resources, harm reduction, and training education; and WHEREAS, Currently, we are in charge of training mental health staff, probation, and Juvenile Justice, as well as having contracts with Public Health for Sexual health outreach and services for unhoused individuals; and WHEREAS, We are solely responsible for training on LGBTQ theory to bars, juvenile justice, probation and help with law enforcement to better understand how to support queer individuals; and WHEREAS, We believe that creating safe spaces for the queer community starts from the inside as well and strengthening support compassion and understanding from cisgender heterosexual allies around Merced County.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MATTHEW SERRATTO, Mayor of the City of Merced hereby proclaim June 2024 as Pride Month in the City of Merced.
