Proclamation
WHEREAS, the City of Merced recognizes the importance of celebrating the cultural heritage of our diverse community; and WHEREAS, lowrider cars are a unique art form that originated in Mexican American communities in Los Angeles, California, and have become a symbol of resilience, creativity, and self-expression; and WHEREAS, lowrider culture has had a significant impact on the City of Merced, with many residents participating in car shows, cruises, and other events that showcase these beautiful vehicles; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that the City of Merced designate a day to honor lowrider culture and its contributions to our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MATTHEW SERRATTO, Mayor of the City of Merced hereby proclaim Sunday, June 23, 2024, as LowRider Holiday in the City of Merced. I encourage all residents to join me in celebrating lowrider culture and its positive impact on our community.
