Canal and W 11th is located next to the South Police Department. This is an intersection that has no traffic controls for north and southbound Canal St. There are stop signs for east and westbound W 11th St. Vehicles that park on Canal St restrict the view for Canal from W 11th St. This is also the northwest corner of McNamara Park. This causes traffic to flow heavy on Canal St making is unsafe to cross. In 2023 January thru Dec 5th there have been 9 reported collisions at that intersection, in 2022 there were 5 reported collisions.
I have had 3 near collisions at that intersection due to its location in reference to the PD parking lot entrance for our South Station. That station houses our Traffic Division who ride motorcycles. Below is the crash data for a 2 year period. 2023 Year to date 8. 2022 5 reported. and an unknown number of unreported or turned away because we no longer respond to non injury collisions.
I am requesting this intersection be changed to a 4 way stop. There are no traffic controls on Canal St between W 13th and W 8th St. 2023 9 Vehicle Collisions
