Interests & Experiences
Tell us about yourself, and why you are applying for this particular Board or Commission:
I've become informed about how different US urban design is compared to the rest of the developed world, and that has led me to develop a passion for trying to build a better city. I want everyone's kids to live in cities that are built for humans first, not cars.
Please list your current employer and relevant volunteer experience.
My current full-time employer is Emergent Health Care Solutions, a remote-first healthcare and emergency services technology company. My part-time employer is Mercy Medical Transportation out of Mariposa.
What is your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this Board or Commission?
My understanding is that this commission's role is ultimately to make recommendations to the city council for how best to develop and/or promote transportation solutions in the city that do not involve cars. I am aware that the commission also does not make recommendations with respect to public transit, but may, at times, deal with concerns that intersect with public transit (IE suggesting a means of feeding pedestrians and cyclists into the transit system). As an ex-officio, I will have a speaking role, but no capacity to vote.
As
for responsibilities, it is clear to me that I will be responsible for attending regularly, and for my personal conduct.
Do you have experience or special knowledge pertaining to this Board or Commission?
I've read a few books on the subject matter and follow multiple commentators who specialize in urban planning and design, including working urban planning engineers. I feel that this has made more familiar with policies that have worked, policies that have not, and why those policies succeeded or failed than the average layperson. I also try to use my bike to travel in the city whenever reasonable or safe.
Any other comments you would like to add that may assist the City Council in their decision?
My goal is ultimately to see a city that is affordable, equitable, and sustainable; to foster both a healthy economy and a strong sense of community. These goals are consistent with the goals of the council, and I think that I can help accomplish those goals on the bicycle commission.
