NOW, THEREFORE, I, MATTHEW SERRATTO, Mayor of the City of Merced, do hereby proclaim October 7, 2024, as Hmong Flute Masters NujSisLoob Appreciation Day in the City of Merced, and urge all citizens to join in recognizing and honoring the Hmong flute masters for their decades of service and enduring contributions to our community. Without these Hmong flute masters, the Hmong community can't move forward with their funeral services. The qeej is often played during Hmong funeral ceremonies. The music played on the qeej helps guide the deceased's soul to the afterlife.
Signed this 18th day of November 2024.
