RESOLUTION NO. 2025-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MERCED, CALIFORNIA,
AUTHORIZING THE DISPLAY OF A
COMMEMORATIVE FLAG ON THE CITY
FLAGPOLE IN BOB HART SQUARE FROM
APRIL 11, 2025 TO MAY 9, 2025
WHEREAS, the City of Merced ("City") displays flags on City flagpoles in accordance with federal and state law; and,
WHEREAS, displays of flags on the City's flagpoles express the City's official sentiments; and,
WHEREAS, on July 6, 2021, the City Council adopted Administrative Policy C-7, Display of Flags at City Facilities, which establishes guidelines for the display of flags at City facilities, including commemorative flags; and, WHEREAS, the display of flags at City facilities is solely intended to serve as an expression of the City's speech; and,
WHEREAS, the Clerks's Office received a request to display a Christian Flag on January 21, 2025; and
WHEREAS on February 3, 2025, the City Council voted 6-1 in favor of displaying the Christian Flag, a commemorative flag, for the month of February 2025 and the Pride Flag, a commemorative flag, from April 11, 2025 to May 9, 2025 at Bob Hart Square.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MERCED DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE, FIND, AND ORDER
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Merced hereby authorizes the display of the African American Flag during February 2025 X:\Resolutions\2025\City Clerk\Christian Flag Resolution.docx and the Pride Flag during June 2025 at Bob Hart Square in accordance with Administrative Policy
C-7.
