I have volunteered my time in the Merced community by paying close attention to issues affecting neighborhoods in District 2 and sharing information with the appropriate authorities and community stakeholders. My focus has been on helping protect vulnerable residents and supporting safer neighborhoods, particularly in areas where community members have expressed concerns about crime and exploitation. One area where I have taken initiative is raising awareness about potential human trafficking risks in parts of District 2. Through careful observation, documentation, and responsible communication, I have worked to ensure that suspicious activity affecting vulnerable individuals is reported rather than overlooked. By helping bring attention to these concerns, I believe I have contributed to a stronger culture of awareness where residents and officials remain alert to exploitation and organized criminal activity. My intention has always been to support broader community and law enforcement efforts to deter trafficking and protect victims. My approach has focused on responsible communication and cooperation. Rather than attempting to handle issues independently, I prioritize relaying information through the appropriate channels so trained professionals can investigate and respond effectively. I believe collaboration between residents and public safety agencies is essential for addressing serious community concerns. I also consider communication one of my strengths when I care deeply about an issue. When advocating for community safety or neighborhood well-being, I try to organize the facts I observe, explain why the issue matters to residents, and clearly communicate the outcomes I hope to see. When something impacts the welfare of my community, I remain persistent in engaging with the appropriate offices and decision-makers until the concern is acknowledged and addressed. Overall, my volunteer involvement reflects my commitment to civic responsibility, community awareness, and constructive engagement with public institutions. I care deeply about the well-being of District 2 and want to contribute in a positive and responsible way to the safety and stability of the neighborhoods in Merced.
What is your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this Board or Commission?
Strategic reason specifically for District 2 District 2 is significant because it includes: older parts of Merced redevelopment zones areas near parks and older residential blocks. A resident from S Street / South Merced would have a direct stake in decisions affecting that district. Addressing community issues District 2 includes areas that historically deal with:
gang activity park safety concerns housing redevelopment infrastructure improvements Do you have experience or special knowledge pertaining to this Board or Commission?
I have a general understanding of the role of the Planning Commission and the importance it plays in guiding responsible development within the city. I understand that the commission reviews matters such as zoning changes, development proposals, land use planning, and recommendations that are ultimately presented to the City Council. The Planning Commission helps ensure that growth in the community aligns with the city’s long-term plans while also considering the needs and concerns of residents. While I am continuing to expand my knowledge of the planning process, I am a very fast learner and take new responsibilities seriously. When I become involved in something, I make a strong effort to study the subject, ask questions, and understand the policies and procedures that guide decision-making. I am confident that with the opportunity to serve, I would quickly become well-versed in the commission’s responsibilities and contribute in a thoughtful and informed way. My goal would be to approach the role with curiosity, dedication, and a willingness to learn from experienced staff, commissioners, and community members so that I can make responsible decisions that benefit the City of Merced and the residents of District 2.

Tell us about yourself, and why you are applying for this particular Board or Commission:
I am an advocate for citizens being involved in their community, and I have wanted to apply for a Board for some time now; I finally feel that this is the right time. Anyone who knows me can tell you that I am one of Merced's biggest cheerleaders. While I do not yet have experience serving on a Board, I believe my deep knowledge of the community and my desire to see Merced thrive make up for that gap. My background includes nonprofit work, networking, community outreach and engagement, and health promotion and education. I bring a unique perspective to the table as an advocate for Merced, a mother who lives and works here, and a public health professional. Community is at the heart of everything I do.
Please list your current employer and relevant volunteer experience.
I currently work for the WIC program under the Merced County Community Action Agency. I began my involvement with WIC in 2018 as a volunteer Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, facilitating the Merced Breastfeeding Cafe. I now serve as the Regional Breastfeeding Liaison, leading education and outreach efforts for the WIC program with local organizations.
My board and leadership experience includes serving on the Board for Play Adventures from 2022 to 2023, completing Valley Onward's Board and Commissions Training Class in 2020, and completing the Parent Leadership Training Institute through the Merced County Office of Education. For two years, I managed the "Nourish Merced" Facebook and Instagram pages, highlighting community and family events and resources, and I continue to maintain a webpage of community resources. In addition, I have coached soccer for the Albion and Atwater Youth Soccer Leagues and t-ball for Atwater Youth Baseball, and I volunteer with Playhouse Merced. I am an active member of the Merced Maternal Wellness Coalition and the Merced Breastfeeding Network. I will graduate from San Jose State University in December of this year with a Bachelor's degree in Public Health.
What is your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this Board or Commission?
I understand that Board roles involve reviewing expenditures, decisions, proposals, projects, and activities in order to make informed recommendations to the City Council. Key responsibilities include remaining unbiased, basing decisions on presented facts rather than assumptions, and prioritizing outcomes that improve the lives of all Mercedians. Through my work with low-income individuals in the nonprofit sector, I have gained a unique perspective that reflects the experiences of those who are often the most underserved. I bring a strong sense of justice and fairness to my work, and I believe that arts and culture play a vital role in building a thriving community.
