Dear Milpitas City Council,
I'm sorry and saddened that I won't be able to attend in person. However, I'm more saddened and sorry that Michael Tsai has been denied a commission seat. Michael Tsai served as an honest voice on the school board with integrity facing off against political partisanship.

Since he is a qualified and committed community leader and servant, we as a community would most certainly benefit from him getting that commission seat. Therefore, we must ignore calls for political retaliation that would deny us such a wise voice on our commission.

Sincerely, Edward Lamb

RE: Item 16 – Review of Applications for Annual Action Plan - CDBG

Esteemed Milpitas Council,

Thank you for your time and for years of Partnership serving Milpitas resident survivors of Intimate Partner Violence. Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence (NDS) has been serving survivors for over 53 years and we are excited to partner with you to ensure survivors have access to risk assessment, safety planning, legal support, emergency shelter, and stabilizing support. We are seeing continued increased needs in legal services, crisis assistance, and food insecurity of survivors. We ask that you consider continuing our long partnership to ensure that access to 24hr support is provided.

As I am sure you are aware of, Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funding is decreasing and the stabilization of services to survivors of violence is in peril. This cut will be felt by cities, counties, and most importantly by constituents everywhere. Our agency has already lost crucial legal funding and NDS stands to lose over $375,000 more. Please consider partnering with survivor-centered agencies now more than ever.

We are committed to our mission of “Ending domestic violence in the moment and for all time” though we need community partners to do so.

Last year we served 45 families from Milpitas. They accessed services through our crisis response, our shelter, our support groups, and our legal program. Please help us stay committed to serving residents in abusive and violent situations, so the entire community may thrive.

Thank you.

In Solidarity, Love, and Intention,

Colsaria Henderson

Hi there, due to a family emergency I will not be able to attend in person to provide public comment on behalf of Sourcewise as planned, so I am submitting my public comment via email below…

Good evening Mayor Montano and City Councilmembers, my name is Linda Phillips, and I am the Director of Community Development at Sourcewise, a nonprofit organization and the Area Agency on Aging, serving older adults, persons with disabilities and their caregivers in Santa Clara County for more than 50 years. We offer 17 direct programs and services, which served over 100,901 individuals last year.

We are extremely grateful to the council for your past partnership supporting our Meal on Wheels program during the pandemic as CDBG grantee.

I am here today to request your support of our Meals on Wheels program. As you may know, our Meals on Wheels program supports homebound seniors age 60 and older impacted by an illness or a disability. These individuals are unable to cook or have no one who can get food or cook for them.

The program provides individuals 14 nutritious home-delivered meals (which is a combination of fresh and frozen meals) each week -- at no cost.

With your support, our team will serve a minimum of 30 low-income seniors or more. Previously, we served over 60 Milpitas seniors, which was three times (3x) our goal. We know there is a significant population of older adults in Milpitas who are in need of home delivered meals.

To reduce social isolation and loneliness, seniors are also offered friendly weekly wellness calls with our Ambassador volunteers. We match volunteers according to primary languages spoken, including Spanish, Mandarin, and Vietnamese.

Individuals who are in need of additional support are also connected to our Community Resources Specialist, who will provide them assistance and access to a network of over 800 community resources to meet their individual needs.

We appreciate your consideration and we look forward to partnering with you to serve seniors in need. Thank you!
