PUBLIC COMMENT IN PERSON
• Derek Castle expressed gratitude to the Salvation Army and stresses the need for bridge housing in Modesto due to job loss or illness. He proposes expanding the successful model of the Family Promise Organization, which partners with local churches to provide temporary housing for families. He cites examples of churches already involved and notes the lack of negative impacts on neighborhoods. He calls for collaboration between faith communities, Family Promise Organization, and the City to expand the program, utilizing vacant church spaces. He expressed optimism about ongoing discussions to facilitate this partnership.
• Kevin Mclarty expressed gratitude to the Mayor, Council, Modesto Police Department, and Modesto Fire Department for their assistance during a previous health emergency.
He commends Mayor Zwahlen's nursing skills and compassion. He raised concerns about the delayed opening of the remodeled train station on Ninth Street due to overhead wires, despite not observing any. He seeks clarification on this issue.
