Kathy Hall-Boyer spoke about safety concerns related to e-bikes, citing her experience as a retired emergency physician and trauma instructor, as well as her use of local trails such as the Virginia Corridor and Dry Creek Trail.
She noted a rise in e-bike-related injuries and fatalities and encouraged the City of Modesto to increase enforcement of existing laws, promote safety education, and consider measures such as helmet compliance checks and speed limits on shared-use paths, including a five-mile-per-hour passing rule.
Derek Castle expressed concerns about safety on the Virginia Corridor and Dry Creek Trail due to high-speed e-bike use. He urged the City of Modesto to adopt and post speed limits on the trails, stating that similar measures have been advocated by medical professionals and safety groups and could help reduce injuries.
