Meeting Date: September 4*, 2025
Subject: Getting approval to see if I can be lent the money to create a S/N and rescue event.
From: Amanda Hopkins Animal control/ code enforcement officer.
Introduction:
This is the first annual dog and cat S/N event dinner. I am here today to see if I can get a loan for the money to make this dinner happen to raise donations for rescue/ abused animals, S/N (cats, dogs). My goal is to have everyone that comes out to help to be volunteer based. I would like to have baskets that will have tickets available to buy at the event, then also have a dessert table that will be auctioned off at the dinner. This event will be so that I have money to help the animals that come into my care. It is required for me to make sure that that animals are up to date on shots and have been looked at by a licensed vet before they get taken to the humaine society to be adopted. All money donated will get put towards a fund that will be spent on spay and neutering for cats (colonies), or dogs' vaccinations (rescues). This fund will be for anything that the animals might need after being picked up from being rescued whether it be, cats from colonies around town that need S/N or vaccinations, or any emergency regarding animal abandonment/ abuse cases.
Discussion/ Analysis:
The city will be paid back for the food, all donations will go into a GL number that is specifically for rescue animals, S/N, any emergency that comes up that is my responsibility.

Thank you for your interest in yolunteering with the City of Montague Fire Department, This is a noble profession with a long tradition of service; one that offers camaraderie and the satisfaction of helping others. We hold volunteers to a high standard- -as a matter of public trust. Your success depends on completion of our application. background checks, and acceptance. We offer free training and valuable job experience working alongside career and volunleer personnel--in exchange for a time commitment.
Montague Fire Department is a fully volunteer department. We are equipped to serve the City of Montague and the Montague Fire Protection District with fire, rescuc and medical operations. We provide mutual aid and automatic aid to our surrounding departments in the county such as Grenada, Yreka City, South Yreka, Maylen, Hornbrook, and Cal Fire Siskiyou Unit.
Make sure to read thoroughly through the application and fill it out completely, if you fail to fill out the application it will delay your application process. If at any time you have amy questons aboul the application picase feel free to contact the Chicf. This is the tirs1 step in becoming a volunteer fire fighter with the Montague Fine Department. Once you fl out the application you will need to return it to the fire department at 121 S 10" St.
Once we have received the application we will look it over and call you lo schedule an interview. You are required to have an interview with at least 3 officers of the department. After the interview your application will be processed to the membership at the next business meeting. The membership will then look over your application and be given a report about your interview. The membership will then vote on your application.
If approved you will be contacted and will be required to be at the next regular city council meeting where the city has to approve your application as well.
Once approved by the City Council you are now a probationary firefighter. You will be assigned a pager and a locker along with all your personnel protective equipment. Your probation period is 6 months and during that time you will be assigned an officer and required to complete certain things during that 6 months. You will need to take and pass a medical physical along with a physical agility test, complete your ICS 100,200,700 online, also complete a CPR for the professional rescuer. You will need to sign up for a Title 22 class, First Responder class, or an EM'T class within that 6 mouth time frame as well. Need to complete $130 and S190 class. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Chiet or any other officers on the department and we will assist you with any needs or questions you have.
We appreciate the opportunity to offer you a chance of a lifetime to be a member of our dedicated volunteers. We take great pride and dedication in what we do. We are one of the busiest departments in Siskiyou County and run over 300 calls a year. It takes a special person and some time away from home to do this job and we just want 1o make sure people understand what they are getting into when joining a volunteer fire department. The State of California requires us to have over 165hrs of Structure Fire Training and 65hrs of Wildland Training along with other hours of training we have to perform each year. We look forward to making you part of our team.
