In collaboration with our community partners, work to improve the quality of life of all of our community members by fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion; championing equitable access to affordable housing; and maintaining a safe environment.

DISCUSSION:
The Memorandum of Understanding that was signed in March 2021 between the City and the Monterey Fire Fighters Association Local 3707 (MFFA), contains a clause that “During the term of this MOU, the City will be conducting a Standards of Coverage Study.” On December 15, 2020, the City Council authorized an agreement with Citygate Associates, LLC, to have them prepare the study. The study has been completed and Citygate is prepared to present its findings to the City Council.
A Community Risk Assessment / Standards of Cover study involves completing an analysis of the specific risks that a jurisdiction has with respect to fire, rescue, emergency medical, and similar services. The existing deployment of emergency response forces and its effectiveness are then evaluated against those risks to get an understanding of how effectively the organization is prepared to mitigate the risks. The study completed by Citygate also reviewed the administrative support component of the Fire Department to determine if adequate support exists for the deployed response resources.
The completed written report is available in two parts, the Technical Report and a Map Atlas.
Both reports are available to download at www.monterey.org/fire. Citygate will make a presentation of the information contained in the report.
