Provide a brief review of your background, qualifications, education and your interest in serving the City:* I am writing to express my wholehearted enthusiasm in applying for the City of Monterey Park’s Library Board of Trustees. The City is an integral part of my personal history, and I believe that this opportunity with the library is a way to express gratitude for everything that Monterey Park has given to me.
After immigrating to the United States, my maternal grandmother and her family chose to lay roots in Monterey Park. Among my 25 aunts and uncles, a large majority attended either Brightwood or Monterey Highlands Elementary, eventually graduating from Mark Keppel High School. They attributed much of their upbringing to the diverse and welcoming culture of Monterey Park.
As my partner and I began to consider where to settle down, it was a no-brainer — we wanted to continue to water the roots that my family cultivated decades ago in a vibrant and loving place (my partner also grew up in Monterey Park). After living here for 6 years now, I have enjoyed many of the facilities and institutions that the city maintains for the public. The Bruggemeyer Library is a beacon of community, and I found myself visiting often to check out stacks of books and quietly read. During my visits, I observed the confluence of generations gathering in the library – curious children and elders alike being granted access to information – and I was encouraged to witness this level of civic interaction.
In my day job, I am in charge of devising and implementing a myriad of solutions to creative problems. With my team, I set the future vision for a large Fortune 500 company, distilling the brand’s identity for a mass market demographic. With this, I perceive my role as a designer as synonymous with storytelling, which is further informed by the creative inspiration I gather through reading. I have been impressed by some of the innovative features that the Bruggemeyer Library offers — from 3D printing services to virtual storytime to ESL courses. Looking toward the future, I believe that my expertise in approaching and adapting to situations through a creative lens complements the goals of the library as it continues to evolve.
In summary, I love being a citizen of Monterey Park and I want to harness my abilities to uphold the pillars of community that make the city a beautiful place. It is my hope that my involvement as a member of the Library Board of Trustees will advance the institution as a vital resource for continued multigenerational success. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

I am a member of the Big Brother Big Sister program.
Provide a brief review of your background, qualifications, education and your interest in serving the City:* I have been a resident of Monterey Park for about 25 years. I am personally interested in joining the Library Board of Trustees but am open to serving other committees as well.
I am a finance professional graduating from UCSD with a bachelor's degree in economics.
I have an extensive work history in non-profits that I think would be beneficial to the committee. I currently work as the Senior Director of Finance for a local non-profit named Optimist Youth Homes and Family Services. I have previously worked at other agencies such as Children's Institute, UCLA, and City of LA. I believe my work history reflects my passion in giving back to the community and leaving the world better than I found it. I think my financial background in non-profits can be a strong resource for the committee if I am selected.
I have been a patron of the library since I was in second grade. As a child of an immigrant family, the library has always been a valuable resource for me. I spent most of my childhood at Bruggemeyer Library. From borrowing books, reading programs, to tutoring, to community events, the library has had such an important role in my life, and I will always have such fond memories of it. I would like to take this opportunity to contribute back to the library.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

I have lived in Monterey Park for over 20 years and I am passionate about our city and believe the library is a central tenant to Monterey Park's essential functions. I'm an avid reader and can average over 25 books read a year. I believe reading a fundamental activity to contribute to children's and adult's success and education in life and I want to help continue the excellent work our Library is doing.
Along with it's excellent track record in community engagement with the plethora of services it offers, I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of that.
