A motto is a short phrase or sentence expressing a guiding principle or ideal, often used by organizations to represent their beliefs and values. The City itself has the motto of “People, Pride, and Progress.”

At the May 12, 2025, EHPC meeting, the Commissioners voted unanimously to recommend to City Council the adoption of an EHPC official motto, “Protect, Defend, and Promote Our Heritage through Preservation .” The motto is proposed to capture the working goals of the Commission.

The City Council may consider providing direction to staff to bring back a resolution on an official EHPC Motto for adoption or may provide alternate direction.

ALTERNATIVES

1. Provide staff direction to bring back a resolution on an EHPC official motto. (EHPC recommends this alternative.)

2. Receive and file this report. (EHPC does not recommend this alternative.)

3. Provide staff an alternative direction based on discussion. (EHPC does not recommend this alternative.)

FISCAL IMPACT

No fiscal impact.
