DISCUSSION
The Public Safety Expo i s a collaborative initiative between the City’s Fire and Police Departments. This free annual event takes place in front of the Public Safety Complex on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Celebrating its 10th year, the Expo will feature a wide range of family-friendly activities, including hands-on exhibits, live demonstrations, music, food, and exciting giveaways.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet some of Moreno Valley’s dedicated Firefighters, Police Officers, and other first responders. Event organizers anticipate welcoming approximately 1,500 community members.

Based upon the success of previous years, the Moreno Valley Police Department and the City Engineer recommend implementing the below proposed road closures to ensure the safe and efficient passage of participants before, during, and after the event.

The recommended road closures are as follows:
a. Calle San Juan De Los Lagos between Veterans Way and Frederick Street b. Veterans Way between Newhope Drive and Goldencrest Drive c. Corporate Way between Resource Way and Calle San Juan De Los Lagos The proposed road closures will be in effect between 6:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to help alleviate traffic congestion and enhance public safety for all motorists. Access to commercial businesses along the affected routes will remain open . Local traffic will continue to have the ability to enter and exit businesses adjacent to the road closures throughout the event.

1. Approve and authorize the recommended actions as presented in this staff report.

The approval will promote safe and efficient passage from the Public Safety Expo for all spectators while reducing the negative impact from the heavy traffic.

2. Do not approve and authorize the recommended actions as presented in this staff report. This alternative will limit the implementation of efficient traffic solutions for the Public Safety Expo.

FISCAL IMPACT
The cost associated with the requested street closures are covered in the Parks and Community Services Department’s Fiscal Year 2025/2026 adopted operating budget.
