DISCUSSION
At its September 3, 2026, meeting, the Parks, Community Services, and Trails Commission voted to recommend “Cottonwood Park” to the City Council for approval consistent with the City’s Park Naming Policy. This policy establishes criteria for naming new parks, including consideration of adjacent City streets, schools, and residential developments.
The new 2.4-acre neighborhood park is located within the Sunset Crossings development (Tract 38443) and is adjacent to Cottonwood Avenue. The park's recreational amenities for the surrounding community include a splash pad, restroom building, basketball court, picnic shelter, walking path, and exercise equipment. Based on the park’s location and the City’s Park Naming Policy, the name “Cottonwood Park” is recommended.
ALTERNATIVES

2. Do not approve the name as recommended and provide direction regarding an alternative name for the park. Staff does not recommend this alternative.
