3 CITY MANAGER'S REPORT
City Manager Christina Turner thanked the Mayor for discussing the Economic Mobility Symposium. There were over 150 attendees and 10 panelists. She shared that we showed a video that we will be making available to the public. This video was made possible by a grant that we received. It highlights diverse local residents, discussing crucial connections between affordable housing and a thriving community. She announced that the Aquatics Center opens on Saturday, June 8, 2024 for the summer season. She also spoke about the Cities Association of Santa Clara County mental health awareness initiative that aims to bring to light issues like anxiety, depression, and loneliness within the community. Today they delivered signs to each city to place at city facilities and downtown areas, featuring the "988" mental health crisis hotline and a QR code link to online resources. This aligns with Council Member Spring's request to address loneliness in our Community. The visible presence of these signs in common community areas will serve as a constant reminder that support is available, encouraging people to seek assistance. By providing immediate access to mental health resources, the campaign fosters a sense of connection and community support.
Additionally, the Cities Association is working on the development of a social media toolkit for community outreach to further extend the campaign's reach, engaging residents through various online platforms and to help normalize conversations around mental health and loneliness, reducing stigma and encouraging individuals to connect with others, share their experiences, and access support services.
